Neeta Lulla’s #SheIsMe collection at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 at St. Regis spoke about a woman’s ethereal beauty and gentleness and also an inherent tenacity in the face of abuse.
A passionate and powerful dance recital with a fusion of Chinese warrior and kathak by Pernia Qureshi communicated the social message against women abuse. Women achievers from all walks of life took to the ramp. There was designer and politician Shaina NC, Yes Bank’s Radha Kapoor, celebrity dietician Pooja Makhija, artist Rouble Nagi and documentary filmmaker Vibha Bakshi.
The cherry blossom, a symbol of feminine passion and power in Chinese culture, formed the central motif of the collection along with Osmanthus associated with a woman’s essence of love and sensuality. Androgynous silhouettes softened with lace and structured styles balanced with drapes showcased the contrasts of a woman’s character.
On view was a range of outfits from elegant eveningwear to glamorous resort bridal wear. Fabrics remained soft and strong with crepe, tulle and lace, seamlessly mixing Edwardian cuts, androgynous silhouettes and feminine styles. The pretty colour palette moved from the fresh and floral of pink, wild rose, olive green and tangerine to the dark hues of dried earth.
