Weaves of Banaras
Weaves of Banaras at ITC Grand Central

It was breezy out there on the terrace of ITC Grand Central with the swish set sauntering in and admiring the marigold and mogra flowers that blended beautifully with the installations in white and gold. Smiling hostesses welcomed you to the Weaves of Banaras night, part of the Make in India Week presented by the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry in collaboration with Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI).
What you witnessed was an interpretation of the splendour of Banaras captured through the modern lens of the magic of crafts created by 12 veteran designers: Sabyasachi, Rohit Bal, Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Namrata Joshipura, JJ Valaya, Ashish Soni, Arjun Saluja, Anju Modi, Anita Dongre, Abraham & Thakore and Abhishek Gupta.
Lilting music wafted in the air as the models glided across the lawn and into your heart. Each designer showcased three ensembles, revelling in the sheer artisanal beauty of the weaves of Banaras, rendering a stunning metaphorical twist through emblematic colours, silhouettes and surreal forms.
And it was time for the bubbly Sula Brut Tropicale and Chandon besides other wines, beers, Chivas Regal, Absolut and other premium spirits at the bar. It was also time to have a bite of the famed ITC food fare. All in all, it was a perfect night out on the town.
