Beautiful and bountiful bash – that’s what it was as Olive Bar & Kitchen turned fifteen with pioneering restaurateur A D Singh and wife Sabina hosting a big, slap-up Sunday brunch full of old friends and happy memories.
Yes, it’s been fifteen years since Olive opened its blue doors and, since then, it’s been one long Mediterranean-inspired sangria-drenched celebration. And before the next fifteen-year party could begin, they took a four-hour break by throwing themselves their own bash behind closed doors.
This anniversary brunch, which also marked 25 years of A D Singh being in business, had the Heather Andrews jazz quartet perform while close pal Ash Chandler hosted and sang a few jazz-inspired numbers, including a specially-created version of ‘A D is a Tramp.’ Another guest singer was Suchitra Pillai who sang with passion.
A D Singh spoke, guests reminisced over a multitude of pictures spanning back fifteen years, known faces air-kissed, hand-shook and body-hugged. Yes, the sangria was in full flow and so, too, were other mixes like a Mumbai masala-infused Bloody Mary, a wine-and-cognac cocktail that packed a punch, fruit beer, beers, wines, premium spirits and classic cocktails.
Complementing this were the many food stations and the appetizing platters doing the rounds. There was an oyster bar, a grilled section, salads, Moroccan tagines, dessert lab and a five-foot long anniversary cake.
As for the guests, there were too many to mention, moving from one section to the other and trampling across the white-pebbled pathway. Needless to say, everyone had a blast, some from the past, others looking forward to a fabulous futuristic tomorrow.
