Aimed at the metrosexual man, Niteesh Singh Chauhan’s ‘Ghats of Varanasi’ collection at IBFW had all the colour, drama and grandeur of its inspiration. The colour story spoke of acute devotion: flame-red moved to ruby, corals met shades of saffron, while honey yellow went lemon and mustard before ending up as off-white.
Varanasi as the backdrop gave style and character to the rich silks and linen garments. From holiday to wedding wear, the fabrics were highlighted with Shibori and leheriya dyeing techniques to create original textures. Elongated sleeveless bundis were seen with kurtas, teamed in contrasting hues of red, yellow or orange in a vibrant yet very masculine collection.
Adding more drama were the turbans and the giant white teeka.
