Not exotic but engaging cinema – that’s what is in store for movie buffs at the sixth edition of the Jagran Film Festival.
The opening ceremony at Fun Cinemas in Andheri saw the presence of Sudhir Mishra, Aanand Rai, R Madhavan, Ranveer Shorey, Kunal Kapoor and Dibakar Banerjee among many other film personalities.
After that the big screen came alive with Emmanuelle Bercot’s film ‘Standing Tall’ which was also the opening film at Cannes. This low-key French drama chronicles the life of an at-risk adolescent dabbling with violence, punishment and the idea of rehabilitation and stars Catherine Deneuve.
On the charts at the film fest are categories like World Panorama, Indian Showcase, Shakespeare 400, Directors’ Special, European Film Academy, Indian Retrospective, Country Focus and Jagran Shorts. And taking forward the theme of the year ‘Cinema for Happy Lives’ you have Happy Talkies with iconic films like ‘Mera Naam Joker,’ ‘Life is Beautiful’ and ‘Gone With the Wind.’
Jagran Film Festival, the country’s biggest travelling film extravaganza, after traversing from Delhi to the Indian hinterlands of Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Dehradun, Hisar, Ludhiana, Patna, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Raipur, Indore and Bhopal, now culminates in Mumbai and is on till October 4.
